SingTel Magix offers Application Service Provider hosting service
More than 100 educational CD-ROM titles available on-line
SingTel Magix announces its partnership with Exent Technologies of Israel to offer an Application Service Provider (ASP) hosting service. Exent Technologies is a leading developer of software products for use in broadband services. With the partnership, Magix is well positioned to host Application Service Providers in Singapore.
The enabling technology offers a flexible and efficient method to deliver software, such as business productivity programmes, entertainment, education, training applications, games and more, over a broadband network. With this technology, software applications can be securely delivered to authorised end users. The technology features a click-and-play client, which works with any conventional html web-browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. The user does not need to install or download the actual application to his PC.
With this innovative service, SingTel Magix customers will be able to 'click-and-play' to access the vast number of educational CD-ROM titles. With Education-On-Demand (EOD), they do not need to purchase the CD-ROMs or have the CD-ROMs installed in their PC as the content is streamed remotely from the server and delivered online via the broadband Magix network. More than 100 educational CD-ROM titles from international and local publishers are available in the CD-ROM library. The titles cover a wide scope of subjects like English, Mathematics, Chinese, Science, Humanities and Edutainment and are suitable as educational reference materials for school children.
The educational contents are provided by several well-known international and local publishers, such as A Star Interactive, Berkeley Multimedia (representing Havas Interactive, a renowned US publisher), Daiichi Media, Datasun Software Corp, Ednovation, Eklectica International and Times Learning Systems.
Mr Leong Shin Loong, SingTel's Chief Executive Officer (Multimedia), said, "Content will stimulate demand for broadband services. This EOD platform supports a huge repository of CD-ROM content for Magix customers to upgrade their skills and knowledge. Our close partnership with publishers and technology partners will enable us to bring a wide range of broadband content services to end users at the click of a mouse."
"Customers are demanding access to more content over high-speed networks. We are very proud to be working with SingTel Magix, who is clearly demonstrating leadership in promoting ASP hosting. With this agreement, SingTel Magix is showing the business potential offered by delivering applications over broadband networks, and meeting the needs of their customers in a new and dynamic way," said Mr Zvi Levgoren, CEO of Exent Technologies.
Magix is showcasing this new platform at its Gaming Zone booth in the E-Festival Asia 2000 from 1 to 7 March 2000 at Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Level 4, Exhibition Hall 404.
